My New Blog

This is my first day posting on my new blog. I switched to blogger because it suited me better than my wordpress one. I find it to be much more user friendly. I was able to import all my posts from my wordpress blog which made me happy. I know that I am new at blogging, but I still didn't want to have to start all over. I wish I could have kept the same name  as my wordpress blog, but it was taken. At least I have it for my Title so it's ok. I am still working on my blog and trying to get it how I like, but in general it is already better than my old one so I am very happy about that. I am almost done reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin, and will be starting on The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson, so I should have a few reviews coming soon. Thanks for stopping by and I would love if you would spread the word about my blog if you enjoy it. Lot's of love to my all my readers!!

Review: If I Die by Rachel Vincent (soul screamers #5)

  • Publisher: Harlequin
  • Publication date: 9/27/2011
  • Pages: 352
The entire school's talking about the gorgeous new math teacher, Mr. Beck. Everyone except Kaylee Cavanaugh. After all, Kaylee's no ordinary high-school junior. She's a banshee—she screams when someone dies.

But the next scream might be for Kaylee.

Yeah—it's a shock to her, too. So to distract herself, Kaylee's going to save every girl in school. Because that hot new teacher is really an incubus who feeds on the desire of unsuspecting students. The only girls immune to his lure are Kaylee and Sabine, her boyfriend's needy ex-girlfriend. Now the unlikely allies have to get rid of Mr. Beck…before he discovers they aren't quite human, either.

But Kaylee's borrowed lifeline is nearing its end. And those who care about her will do anything to save her life.

 My Review

Wow!!!! This book literally took me on the biggest emotional rollercoaster! This book is the definition of emotional thrill ride. I felt every emotion at some point in this story, many of them one after another on the same page. I am still trying to get myself together after reading it. As the overview tells you, Kaylee finds out her life-line is about to run out. She has less than a week before she will die, and being Kaylee she needs to save people. Her best friend Emma is at risk of being the next victim to her Incubus teacher and Kaylee wants to make sure that her, and any other potential victims are safe before she dies.

Kaylee is already living on borrowed time and knows that this is it, there is no way around it. This is her last chance to protect the people she cares about. She wants to make her last days mean something. Sabine and Kaylee come to a sort of truce to try to work together and find a way to get rid of the Incubus, which is very entertaining. I love Sabine's character, so more of her is always a good thing to me. She is so fierce, and brutally honest and the dialogue between her and Kaylee is always fun to read.

As always, Tod is there to help Kaylee when she needs it, and Nash gets jealous about her spending time with him. Tod is the one best suited to help Kaylee with certain things since he has some pretty cool skills being a reaper and all, so we get more of him. (which in my opinion is always a good thing *sigh*)

There are so many twists and turns in this book and it was so hard to put down. This book will make you laugh, cry, smile, and probably stay up all night reading until you finish. You need to read this. (and if you haven't read the first four yet, what are you waiting for?) This is the best Soul Screamers book yet! This series gets so much better with each book, and I am dying to know what comes next in Before I Wake.

Terrific Tuesday

I am super excited today because of course new books were released. There are so many good books coming out this week, I wanted so many, but only pre-ordered 3 of them. The first I am going to read (and will probably finish super quick) is If I Die by Rachel Vincent. It seems like I have waited forever for this next installment of the Soul Screamers Series. I have read some of the advance reviews and am so, so excited for it. I also pre-ordered The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. It looks amazing and the advance reviews and book trailer convinced me I needed to get it. I really want to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor and The Faerie Ring by Kiki Hamilton also, but I can only read so many books, and on Thursday I will have The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson which I am really looking forward to. So with the 3 books I already have ordered for this week I am afraid that Daughter of Smoke and Bone and The Faerie Ring will have to wait until some other time. Other great sounding books coming out that I am interested in are Ashfall by Mike Mullin, A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies, and Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. There are just too many to get to, and even more great ones coming out next week as well. I wish I could buy and read them all, but it's just not possible. If only days were like 60 hours long.....

Review: Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

  • Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
  • Publication date: 10/15/2011
  • Edition description: Covenant Series
  • Pages: 304

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem—staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

My Review

Where do I even start? Fantastic! Really. I am trying to figure out how to write this review without giving anything away, but still letting you know how awesome of a book it is.  I was pulled in from the very beginning. The story just flowed so well and kept me intrigued the whole time. The character development was wonderful. I enjoyed getting to know all of them.

I love how Alex is so strong mentally and physically. She is one of those kick-ass female characters you absolutely love. She is sarcastic, and reckless at times.  She is very strong-willed, and like a typical teenager makes mistakes and has trouble knowing when to keep her mouth shut, but is very smart and determined. There is no way she is going to let herself be thrown into a life of servitude. She knows that being a Sentinel is what she is meant to do. Alex struggles with training to get back into the covenant, the sadness of losing her mother, why the Apollyon (a half-blood that can control all the elements and is the ultimate daimon killer) is there instead of out fighting daimons, and the feelings she has about Aiden. She knows it's wrong to even think about, but she can't help it.

The romance that developes between Alex and Aiden is very believable. It's not one of those instantly in love things. I enjoyed the dialogue between them, the silly banter, and the nice sweet conversations. The Apollyon, Seth has been brought to the covenant because of something to do with Alex, and when they find out why, they are even more confused at the reasons behind it.

This book is packed with action, mythology (with a twist), some romance, a lot of sarcasm and humor, plot twists, and there's some tear-jerkers for you too. I couldn't helped but be completely into this book. There is never a dull moment. The next book in this series titled Pure comes out in the spring, and I can't wait to see where the story is going! Also there is a prequel titled Daimon that I highly recommend you read before jumping into this.

Doing a movie review today

Last night was date night with my husband so we did dinner and a movie. I had wanted to see Abduction so despite the bad reviews we went to see it. Well now I understand why the movie got bad ratings. It's a shame really because Lily Collins is a fantastic actress, but even she couldn't help this movie. This could have potentially been a good movie. The idea was there, and they had some good actors for the film, but the screenplay seemed like it was written by a five-year old. The filming was a bit nauseating with how shaky, spinny, and blurry the camera was for most of the movie. The dialogue was so horrible most of the time is was actually funny. (and not in a good way) The few actual action sequences the movie had were decent, but not enough to warrant any praise. Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins did an ok job considering what they had to work with. I think if their was better dialogue and better filming the movie would have been alright. Unfortunately it was really awful and deserves the horrible ratings. That said I absolutely love Lily Collins and I can't wait to see her as Clary in City of Bones when that is finally made. I think she's going to do fabulous in The Mortal Instruments movies.

Happy Fall, and happy Friday too.

It is now officially my favorite season!! Along with my favorite season apparently are a whole bunch of books I really want to read. (which just makes this fall even better) In the next month there are so many books coming out that look amazing. So I am going to make a little list of upcoming book releases for next week that are on the top of my reading list.

  • 9/27 If I Die by Rachel Vincent (already pre-ordered and super excited for Tuesday)

  • 9/27 Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

  • 9/27 The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

  • 9/27 A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies

  • 9/29 The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson (already pre-ordered this one too, and I should be finished with If I Die so I can jump right into this one)

Those are next weeks books that I really want, and as you see I already have pre-ordered two of them. I really want to read the other ones too so we will see. So many books I want to read, and not nearly enough time. As it is right now I am actually reading two books, and they are both really good. One of them is Enthralled, and since it's an Anthology I can just read a few of the stories and then go back to the other book I am reading. The other book I am currently reading is Half Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Both are great so far. I wish I could read 3 or 4 books in one day because then I could almost get to all of the ones I want to read, of course I would probably go broke if I bought that many books so I guess it's a good thing that I can't. Ok that's all I have for today. Happy Friday, and enjoy the first day of Fall. (and of course every other day too ;) )

Going on a rant here...beware

I wrote a post last week about what I went through for a dress, and now the rant continues. Last Wednesday when I received my order, which wasn't in fact my order at all, but someone from all the way on the other side of the US, I called Forever 21 and was not pleased about how they were going about the situation. They told me that once they received the order that they sent me back in their warehouse they would refund my money. Ok anyone else think that I should have gotten my refund right away since it was their mistake. It's not like I was just sending back something I didn't like, then I could understand, but they sent me someone elses order. So he tells me that he will put it in so that when UPS scans the package they will put the refund through. UPS picked up the package the next day, and I figured I would give them until Friday to credit me. I had a wedding to so I didn't bother with checking to see if it was there, but on Monday was pretty mad when it still wasn't. On Tuesday I get an e-mail from UPS that the package was returned, still no money in my account so I e-mailed the supervisor I had spoken to and he tells me he put the refund through. Yesterday still no credit, now I am really pissed. I call the direct extension, nothing of course. So today I finally get through and talk to the manager and he tells me they put in the transfer yesterday, but it will take 5 days. Ok WTF!! They took my money out on the 10th when I placed the order. They were informed on the 14th that they sent me the wrong order, and UPS picked it up to send back on the 15th. They got the order back in their warehouse on the 20th, and I still have to wait until next week for my money back. It takes them minutes to get the money from my account, but all this time to put it back. That just seems very unacceptable to me being that it was their mistake. If the fault was on my part I would not be so upset about all of this. I understand their return policy, but this was not just me not wanting my product. It wasn't even my order that I received.  The invoice was a girl in Oregon. I really do like the clothes from Forever 21, but I will not buy anything from them again. If a business thinks it's ok to run a business that way, I don't want to support them at all. When I posted about what I went through to get my dress, I left out the company name to be respectful, but now I feel no need to respect the company at all and want others to know what they do. Well, I feel a little better now that I have gotten that out of my system. Now if only my money was back in my account I would feel a lot better. Sorry for the rant, but it was driving me crazy thinking about it. Now I am off to relax and read.

Review: Descended by Blood by Angeline Kace

  • Publisher: Accendo Press LLC
  • Publication date: 7/28/2011
  • Pages: 252
Brooke Keller's a high school junior who never spent much time living in one place. She's finally in a town long enough to almost snag the boy of her dreams, until her life is threatened by a fanged man in his attempt to kidnap her. Brooke begins a dangerous journey to find out who is after her and how to stop them. Thrown into a world with powerful and prejudiced vampires, Brooke must tap into the side of herself that she never knew existed, at the risk of losing her life in order to save it.

My Review

I wasn't sure what to expect when starting this book. I haven't been really into stories about vampires lately, but I am so glad I read this one. It's not just your typical vampire story. I was pulled in right from the beginning of the book, and it progressed wonderfully right through to the cliffhanger ending. It was an adrenaline rush from the start. The story moves fast and brings you from one thing to the next. The characters developed nicely and you really get a feel for them.

I liked seeing Brooke change and really learn to stand up for herself and her friends, instead of being the girl who won't even defend herself against Jaren's snotty ex-girlfriend. She comes to accept her vampire blood and learns to embrace it and use it, though it does take a while and some help from Mirko, a wise very old vampire Lijepa, and her BFF Kaitlyn. Mirko helps train Brook how to fight, and Lijepa helps her to learn to use her special skills. Kaitlyn is the awesome BFF who is understanding and non judgmental and I really like her personality. I hope we get to see more of her in the future books. She really helps Brooke to just be who she is meant to be, and not to be so afraid.

Onto the whole love triangle thing. I love how now being an adult, I look back and laugh because I remember the drama of being a teenage girl with a crush, and how one minute it's heaven and the next you are an emotion wreck. The whole falling in love quick thing usually does bother me, but it doesn't so much in this book because it's a typical teenager thing. Brooke is so head over heals over Jaren, and has liked him forever so I can see how she's "in love" with him. I kinda don't really like Jaren much. I mean I feel a little bad for him because he's had a rough upbringing with a dad who doesn't care, but I don't think he is deserving of Brooke at all. He thinks he can just want her, and then not want her, and then want her again, all while expecting her to just take him back. Mirko on the other hand has wanted her the whole time he has known her and never wavered in his decision at all. Yes he's a little arrogant, but really he has every right to be so I am team Mirko all the way. I hope we get to know more about his deep dark past. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, and hope it continues on a fast paced thrill ride like this one.

My mind seems to be mush this week

I just finished reading Descended by Blood by Angeline Kace, and it was really good. I will write a review on it, but when I sat and tried to today I just stared at my computer screen for a really long time. Then I would think I knew how I wanted to put it into words and I would write a few sentences and then just stare again. So it's not really working out for me today. I am feeling slightly under the weather with a bit of a sore throat and congestion so I am just run down and tired, and my daughter is trying to see how many of my buttons she can press today. They can't make enough Aleve or Tylenol for this. That being said, I am probably not going to be able to get the review up today, but I will try to work on it while Makayla naps, if she naps. It all sounds really good in my head, but when I see it in front of me, it's not how I want it. For now I am going to go make myself a hot cup of tea, and relax for a bit.  Hopefully the review will come to me right if I just don't think about it. Oh and one other thing, Demi Lovato's new album Unbroken is great, so you should go buy it. Really... it's super good! Time to go rest myself thanks for stopping by.

Review: After Obsession by Carrie Jones and Steven E Wedel

  • Publisher: Bloomsbury USA
  • Publication date: 9/13/2011
  • Pages: 320

Aimee and Alan have secrets. Both teens have unusual pasts and abilities they prefer to keep hidden. But when they meet each other, in a cold Maine town, they can't stop their secrets from spilling out. Strange things have been happening lately, and they both feel that something-or someone- is haunting them. They're wrong. Despite their unusual history and powers, it's neither Aimee nor Alan who is truly haunted. It's Alan's cousin Courtney who, in a desperate plea to find her missing father, has invited a demon into her life-and into her body. Only together can Aimee and Alan exorcise the ghost. And they have to move quickly, before it devours not just Courtney but everything around her.

Filled with heart-pounding romance, paranormal activity, and rich teen characters to love-and introducing an exciting new YA voice, Steven Wedel-this novel is exactly what Carrie Jones fans have been waiting for. Meet your next obsession.

My Review

I had really been looking forward to this book for a long time. It sounded really good, and the cover is beautiful. Carrie Jones is also a fantastic writer. It's a story about friendship, love, and sacrifice. About facing your fears, doing what is right, and learning to be true to yourself. Let me just say, this book was fantastic! I love the dual perspective this story is written in. It lets you get much more of the story and keeps you pulled in right from the beginning. It is beautifully done and flows flawlessly from Alan's point of view to Aimee's.

The characters seem very realistic and it's nice to be able to get inside both of their heads and really get a feel for them. It was interesting to read them falling for each other from their own perspectives. How they are so scared of the possession and evil in town, and they are putting protecting their family and friend's before their feelings for each other. Or tying to anyways. They need each other to get rid of this evil spirit that has haunted the town for a very long time. They will need to use both Aimee's healing power and Alan's ability to get rid of the evil spirit with the help of his spirit guide. I could not put this book down. It was spooky, touching, and funny at times. A great read for teens and adults. Go out and get this book you won't regret it.

I have been having a wonderful weekend

This weekend has been fun, but very tiring. On Friday I drove up to York Beach, Maine to go to my friend's wedding. It is so beautiful up there. I will definitely be going back there sometime. When I got there I had to get ready for the wedding so I couldn't really look around much, but I did take a walk down the beach on the way to the pavilion. I have to say it was a little chilly, but it was still really nice. The ceremony was wonderful, and everyone looked amazing. Everyone really liked my dress too, the one I went through so much for. (if you read my post about getting my dress you know what I am talking about) I don't really get out that much since I have a toddler at home so it was really nice to have a night away. The reception was really fun. It was at the Atlantic House which is a nice place. I was glad they had an open bar in two different hour-long time slots though. The drinks were pretty ridiculously overpriced, but that's what you get at a nice place on the beach I guess. (the mojitos were really good) I saw a lot of friend's I hadn't seen in a long time, and danced a lot.

Saturday morning I woke up at 5am like usual. I really wanted to go back to bed, but I couldn't so I got up and got ready and then went out and took a walk on the beach and explored the cute little town a bit. Around 9am one of my friend's who was staying in the same hotel as me finally got up and we went to breakfast and hit up all the shops. It was so nice out on Saturday that we stayed until around noon before finally deciding we all needed to head home. I really missed my little girl too. I took the scenic route as much as possible on the way home. Once I finally did get home my sweet little girl ran and gave me the biggest hug ever which was the best welcome home. Then exhaustion set in so I pretty much just lounged around and played non active things with her until bed.

Now onto today. I have a baby shower to go to. I am sure it will be fun. I am still exhausted, but at least it's close to home and it's early. I do love baby showers though. Baby stuff is just so cute. I of course got a Barnes and Noble gift card for her, so I can give the gift of reading. On the topic of the gift of reading, I will be doing a few book reviews this week. I was trying to get to them, but I had a busy wonderful weekend. I'm ready to get back to my not so busy and kind of boring life, with more time to read.

What I went through for a dumb dress

Ok so this is a random, infuriating, and funny story. Being the idiot that I am I waited until a week before my friend's wedding to think about the fact I need a dress to wear that is dressy enough. I am not a person who dresses up very often so I don't have dressy clothes, I buy them when I need them. I don't really want to go to the mall because it's almost an hour drive and dealing with a toddler while trying on dresses isn't that fun. So I go online and find a cute dress that is inexpensive (because really, I don't want to spend a bunch of money on a dress I will probably only wear once or twice) and I order it. Well it says normal shipping is 5-10 days, so now I am worried it won't be in on time and upgrade to their only other shipping option which is 2-5 days, and happens to cost $17 (really?!! there goes my plan on not spending a lot on a dress) I get the package in the mail yesterday, really excited because of course I want to try it on and make sure it fits, and honestly see if it's as pretty as I expect, but when I open it it's not the dress I ordered. It's not my order at all actually it's some one name Katie or something who lives in Oregon. So I call the company, pretty angry about it because now there is no way I will get the dress on time because I need it by the next day, which would be today because I need to drive to Maine tomorrow for the wedding. I am getting nowhere with the guy I am talking to, and I am very frustrated so I get transferred to the supervisor. I tell them I want my money back, and they say that they will send UPS to get the package (after I refuse to bring it to the post office myself since it isn't my fault that they shipped me someone elses order) and once they receive the merchandise back I will get my refund. Now I am super mad because they already have my money and I obviously didn't receive what I ordered, so why should I wait for my money back. Not to mention now I have to go to the mall, which I was trying to avoid doing, and spend more money to get a dress so it's a big inconvenience to me. He says he will try to get the money put back right away (which didn't happen, it's still not there ) and send me the info for UPS and blah, blah , blah. Ok so fast forward to today. I go to the mall with my daughter and as I suspect it isn't going to be easy. She was being good, just a typical toddler trying to hide in the clothes racks and touch everything, but it's still not very fun to deal with. I go store to store trying on dress after dress and find a few I like, but don't want to spend that much money on them. (did I mention I don't really like shopping, I know weird right?) I really don't want to go to the store that I ordered the dress from, I mean I know it's not that stores fault, but I don't want to give them my business. I am running out of options so I go there and they have the dress I ordered so I end up buying it there. After all that... I really liked it though and it was cheaper than the other ones that I didn't really like as much. If I had found one that was about the same price that I liked somewhere else I would have bought it, but that wasn't the case. And so now I am happy I have the dress, but mad that I gave that company business after all the shipping the wrong order, and the phone stuff. That is my story about what I went through for a dumb dress. Maybe after the wedding this weekend I will post a picture of it. It really is pretty. :)

Reading and a toddler

Yesterday I got the book After Obsession by Carrie Jones and let me tell you, it's really good so far. I really wish I was further along than I am, but having a toddler makes it hard to do anything I really want like reading, for my pleasure. I spend a lot of the time reading her books, coloring with her, playing outside, going for a walk, and all those other things that toddlers want to do. I am hoping to be finished with the book tonight so I can try to put up a review in the next couple days. I will be up in Maine for a few days for a friend's wedding so I will be able to update my blog until probably Sunday. I want to try to get the review for After Obsession up before I start reading Enthralled on Tuesday when it comes out. I also want a different set-up for my blog, but it seems that nothing is really working out the way I like, but I don't have the time to play around with it and get it how I really want it. Hopefully I can get all of these things accomplished in the next week.

Books I am really looking forward to this month.

It seems like with the awesome fall weather, there are also a lot of books that look really good that I want to read. I have already pre-ordered quite a few of them. I hope I have enough time to read all of them before even more books I want to read come out. The rest of this year has so many great books to look forward to, so I need to just try to keep myself focused on one month at a time. So for September I really want quite a few. So the top books that come out this week that I want to read are:

1. After Obsession by Carrie Jones and Steven E. Wedel 9/13 (I am currently reading this)

2. Fateful by Claudia Gray 9/13  Werewolves on the Titanic!! Enough said, sounds awesome!

3. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern 9/13 All the early reviews make it sound fantastic!

I will try to put up a review of After Obsession as soon as I am done reading it.

Loving the fall weather

Sorry I didn't post anything yesterday. It was family day and we went to the local Fair. To me the fair mean fall, and fall is my favorite season. Not just because the weather is nice, or the trees look pretty, but because I love all the yummy stuff that comes with fall. Pumpkin Lattes, Apple pies and deserts (of course apple picking), apple cider, and Halloween candy. Besides, fall is a great time for family stuff. My daughter loved the fair yesterday. She is just tall enough to go on some of the rides now, so it was very exciting for her. Next on the list of family activities is apple picking. I love picking apples and baking stuff, and my daughter is the best little helper. Then onto picking out pumpkins and carving them. The only thing I don't like about carving pumpkins is having to dig the goop out of them. It's kind of gross feeling to me. I am very excited to bring my daughter trick or treating this year too. Last year she was still too young, so this year will be really fun bringing her for the first time. I know it's not technically fall until next week, but it feels like it already, so happy fall everyone!!!

Hmmm what books to review...

Well I did say that I would post something book related today. I am actually right in the middle of reading a book and my mind is blurred with that story. I guess what I will do is write a nice list of recommended books that I have read recently. Ok I am going to do some ebooks. I don't believe that these are available in actual physical book form.

My Blood Approves series by Amanda Hocking.

1.My Blood Approves 2.Fate 3.Flutter 4.Wisdom

Ok so it's another Vampire story, but it's actually not bad. There are a lot of typos that kinda bother and distract me a little, but it's not a big deal. Of course being a vampire story there is a girl, a human girl, who has this pull toward the vampire. Except Alice is in love with 2 vampires who are "brothers" by the vampire sense. The story unfolds pretty well and keeps you interested. Alice is different somehow and the vampire family is very interested in her. I do find her character a bit annoying, and some of the other characters not quite interesting, but in general not bad books to read. The books just didn't pull me in like a lot of really fabulous books do. I was easily distracted while reading them.I wouldn't say rush out to buy them, (if you have an e-reader) but if you are looking for something to read to fill the space between waiting for books, give them a shot. I think potentially they could have been really good books, but they seemed to just fall a little short. I am in no way giving the books a bad review, I did enjoy them, but they are nothing that I would have bought normally. If I had to rate these I guess I would give them a 3.5 out of 5 stars. I don't tend to like rating things though.

Well since I did a recommended list on some ebooks I should review a book that you can buy if you don't have an e-reader.

I think I will review Awaken by Katie Kacvinski. It is a dystopian novel, and I am pretty sure it's going to be a series(though not positive)

This book takes place in the not so distant future where everything is done by computer. School  (Maddie's father is the creator of digital school), shopping, socializing, even exercise. There are no book made of paper. There are no real trees, they are now synthetic, and it's not very common to actually come in contact with real people anymore. Maddie does play soccer, but that is the only time she is around real people besides her family. She is pretty happy just living her mostly digital life, until she meets Justin online and he asks her to meet him at a study group. She becomes completely drawn to him, and enjoys having real company and being around an actual person. She learns that he belongs to a group that is trying to take down the digital world and get back to "old times". Maddie really likes the people who she has met, but when it comes down to it she has to make a choice between this longing for freedom from the digital world, and her family. This book was so great and I couldn't put it down. The story seems realistic. This is a very highly recommended read.

Nothing interesting today

I started reviewing 2 books, but it's not coming out how I want it to, so no book review today. I think that is the hard thing about trying to write reviews for all of you. I just don't know how to put it into words sometimes without giving anything away. In my head it always sounds so much better than when I actually see it on the screen. Last night I wrote four reviews, and then trashed them because they just didn't sound right to me. In the upcoming weeks I really want to write reviews on some of my very favorite books, (The Mortal Instruments series) but I want to make sure I can do the books justice. They are absolutely fabulous, and besides Harry Potter they are my favorite books. Cassandra Clare is really amazing in her ability to capture you with her writing and make you need more. I will try to get another book review, or recommended book list up this weekend sometime. This week has been kinda a headache with all the rain and a cranky toddler who wants to go out and play, so my mind is already half shut down within 10 minutes of waking up. Hopefully this weekend should be better. If not I will still post something book related for all of you wonderful people.

If you don't have anything nice to say ....

Ok so I am not going to do a book review today because I was going to do one on the book I was finishing, and as the title of this post says, if you don't have anything good to say...  I will not write a bad review on a book because I think it is disrespectful to the author. Also I am sure that some people will probably think it is a great book, just not my thing. That being said, I will only review books on this blog that I want to give a good or neutral review to. I could easily just write a review on one of the 70 something other books I have read so far this year, but I don't feel like picking one. I will think of one tonight, or I will do another general list with brief descriptions tomorrow. I was too busy playing around on Pottermore yesterday to give it much thought. (which I must say is pretty cool) Well enough of my boring nonsense for today, and once again thanks for visiting my uninteresting blog.

So I have changed my opinion on this subject. It's tough to write a bad review, but in all honesty sometimes you just have to. I originally was just going to write reviews of books or other things I enjoyed and just write nothing if I didn't enjoy it. Now I think that even if it's not something I enjoyed, if I do have to write a negative review than so be it. I will try to put in any good points there is though. Just because I may not like something doesn't mean that other people won't and my reviews are just my personal opinion. I just hate to be negative about something when obviously someone has worked very hard on it. So there is my update about writing negative reviews. If I need to I will, I just hope I won't. ( although I think that is thinking way too positive.)

My Review

I had been waiting for what seemed like forever for this book to come out. I rushed out to buy it the day it was released, only to discover that none of my local book stores had it yet. (the ebook version was not released the same day, and that is why I didn't download it) Luckily I was able to order it and get it 2 days later.  I have read all of Rachel Vincent's books, and loved them. This one is no exception. Blood Bound is the first in Rachel's Unbound series. So enough about how I wanted this book and had little issues getting it, onto my review of it.

Liv Warren trusts no one, and has some dark secrets. She also has a special ability. She can track anyone, just by the scent of their blood. She is called to this task when a friends husband is murdered and her child goes missing. She has no choice but to do it. An oath that she and her friends took when they were children prevents her from saying no. To make matters worse, her ex- lover Cam Cabellero who she has been trying to avoid for the past 6 years will be her partner on this mission.

What do you do when you can't say no? How can you keep your dark secrets hidden? Is it possible to work as a team with your ex-lover when the need and want to be with him is fighting to overpower the reasons why you can't be? Rachel Vincent takes you on a wild ride into the world of criminals, lies, and secrets. This book leaves you on the edge of your seat and eager to dive further into the world these characters live in. I know I will be counting down the days until the second installment, Shadow Bound comes out and we get to read more.

Book recommendations

Since this is supposed to be a blog about books mostly, I guess I should post something about them. I have read so many books this year that were really good, and not all are fresh enough in my head to write a good review. So instead, I want to make some lists of recommended reading with basic descriptions of the books. Since I am excited about Rachel Vincent's upcoming book If I Die (Book 5 of the Soul Screamers series), I will start with some of her books. These are the books from the Soul Screamers series. (YA)

1.My Soul to Take- This is book one of the series. It's about a girl named Kaylee, who is a bean sidhe. (or banshee) She can see shadows surrounding people before they die, and she can't control the scream that comes with it. The only thing is, she has no clue why this happens. Her family has kept it a secret that she is a bean sidhe.  She learns of what she is from the very good looking Nash Hudson who also is not quite human. Girls are dropping dead for no apparent reason and they are going to figure out why, and how to stop it. (I also do recommend the prequel novella My Soul to Lose)

2.My Soul to Save- Onto book two of the series. In this one Kaylee and her boyfriend Nash team up with Grim Reaper, Tod (Read  Reaper to get to know Tod a little bit. Also another short novella) to save an old friend named Addison Page. She also happens to be a famous pop star. Addison has sold her soul to gain fame and fortune, and she isn't the only one. Now Kaylee, Nash and Tod must travel to the dangerous Neverworld to save Addison before she is stuck with a life of torment belonging to a hellion.

3.My Soul to Keep-Book three. Kaylee and Nash are so into each other and she fells like nothing can come between them. He completely understands her and they are happy. Everything changes when they go to a party at popular jock Scott Carters house. Somehow a drug from the Netherworld had gotten into the human world. Demon Breath, and it's an addiction that can kill you. Kaylee and Nash need to find the source of it, and stop it from entering the human world. If they don't an already addicted friend will die.

4.My Soul to Steal-Book four.In this book, things get very complicated between Nash and Kaylee. They have already been having issues, and now his ex-girlfriend Sabine has transferred to their school. She is no ordinary girl though, she is a Mara. She can read people's fears and then weave them into nightmares. She also wants Nash back, and it seems she will do anything to get him back. While Kaylee is fighting for her boyfriend, teachers are dying and she needs to figure out if it is Sabine doing it or some other evil being.

Ok so those are my book recommendations for today. Sorry the descriptions are so short, but I think they are enough to get you interested without giving anything away. If you haven't read them I suggest you do. Rachel Vincent is amazing, and this series is great. The next in the series, If I Die releases September 27.

Happy Monday

We were all feeling a little lazy today after going to a friends wedding last night. Makayla had a blast dancing, and we were out over an hour past her normal bedtime so it has been a nice lazy family day today. We went to my sister in laws house for lunch and then came home and just kinda hung out. I was going to write about books today, but have decided against it. I don't really know which book I want to review first, and also I have read so many books recently that were really good, but they aren't quite fresh in my mind. So, I have decided instead to write a few posts with book recommendations and just have a short basic description of them. I will do maybe lists of 5 until I am up to the most recent books I am reading, and them I will do actual book reviews. Hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend. (if you got a long weekend)

My anniversary

Ok, so I know I was going to try to post some book reviews, but it's my 6 year wedding anniversary, so I probably shouldn't be hanging out on the computer. We actually have nothing special planned. We need to go grocery shopping, and then later have a friends wedding to go to. I think that is a fabulous way to celebrate out anniversary. It's will be a reminder of how happy our wedding day was. Well I should be going now so we can get stuff done today. I will definitely try to post something that is not about my boring everyday life tomorrow.

Day 2 of my Blog

Good Morning! I am talking to no one really, seeing as I am still trying to set this up how I want it. I am more just trying to post to see how it looks and if I want to change things. I apparently am not very good at the whole blog setup thing. I have been working on it for an hour, and drank about a pot of coffee. It's really too nice of a day out for me to be sitting at the computer, so I think I am done for the day. More to come later. I better make things more interesting if I want people to actually read my blog.

First Post to my Blog

Ok, so I just wanted to start off by saying hello, and welcome to my blog. I will mostly be writing book reviews, but I will also post about regular everyday stuff too. I have never done a blog before so this is all new to me. Any suggestions to make it better are welcome. Also let me know what you would like to read about and I will try my best to entertain everyone. Once I have gotten myself more familiar with how this is set up I will make another blog post. Thanks for visiting!!
