Great new show Once Upon A Time (Ep 1)

 On ABC Sundays at 8pm

Last night was the premier of a new show Once Upon A Time, and I was completely enchanted. When I first heard about this show, I knew I had to see it. It goes back and forth from the fairy tale world and the real world. The characters from the fairy tale world all have a real world counterpart. (except for Emma(played by Jennifer Morrison)) The season opens with the story of Snow White(Ginnifer Goodwin), but I have heard the show will not just be about Snow White. They are going to tie in other fairy tales as well. I was not sure if this would be a full season show or a mini series, but it appears that it will be a full season. (and hopefully more) I read that they are filming episode 8, but the producer has read up to episode 10. (I am doing a happy dance now)

So to recap on last nights pilot episode(S1 E1 Fractured Fairy Tales(may be minor spoilers)

It starts with the familiar story of Snow White in her glass coffin. Prince Charming(Josh Dallas) kisses her, Boom she's awake. But then comes the good stuff. The Evil Queen(Lana Parrilla) interrupts their wedding and curses them to ruin their happily ever after. Then move to the real world where Emma Swan has returned home from work on her Birthday and gets an unexpected visitor. Henry(Jared Gilmore) the son she gave up for adoption when he was born. Henry wants her to come home with him to Storybrooke Maine. As she is bringing him home he shows her his "Once Upon a Time" story book and tell her that they aren't stories, they are real, and she is in it. He tells her that none of the people in Storybrooke can remember they are actually fairy tale characters.

As the show goes on we go back and forth between the flashbacks of the fairy tale world and the real world. We find out in the fairy tale world that the Queens Curse will ensure no one will have a happy ending, and the only one able to save them is Snow Whites unborn daughter, who will escape the curse and return on her 28th Birthday. When they arrive in town Henry tells her that the clock on the clock tower is frozen because of the Evil Queens curse. He says it hasn't moved in years, and that time is frozen in the town of Storybrooke. Emma returns Henry to his home and adoptive mother (who is the Evil Queen in the real world) After a chat she leaves to return home, only to realize Henry has left his story book in her car. She crashes her car trying to avoid a wolf in the road and ends up in jail. (accused of drunk driving)  In the morning it's discovered that Henry is missing and Emma is released to help find him. They go to the school after finding out Henry has his teachers credit card to see if she knows anything. (His teacher is real world Snow White, Emmas mother)

Emma finds Henry and they have a heart to heart talk about why she gave him up, and he tells her that it's the same reason why Snow White and Prince Charming gave her up.He convinces her to stay in town for a little while to try to set things right. When she returns him home, his adoptive mom is angry. She threatens Emma to stay out of Henry's life. Emma asks if she really loves Henry, and she answers yes, but Emma knows it's a lie. She checks into a B&B and encounters the real world Rumplestiltskin who the owners seem scared of. They explain that he owns the whole town. The episode ends with Henry looking out the window at the clocktower, and the clock has now begun to move.

This show for me is great. Growing up reading fairy tales and seeing all the movies, I was interested to see how they were going to make a show based on them. I really like how it all starts with the fairy tale and the unanswered questions we all want to know, but brings us into the modern world too. The fairy tales are real, not just stories. I didn't know if I was going to like the whole time swapping thing, but it works. I love getting to see the the story in a way it's never been seen. This show has so much potential to be amazing, and so far it is. I will honestly say, I am not much of a tv person. I would rather sit and read, but this show has completely got me hooked and I can't wait until next weeks episode. For anyone who loves fairy tales, this is a show to watch.
