Waiting on Wednesday 6-6-12

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine  to share what book you are highly anticipating the release of.

This week my Waiting on Wednesday is Dearly, Beloved by Lia Habel. I loved Dearly, Departed and can't wait to see what happens next.

Overview

Can the living coexist with the living dead?

That's the question that has New Victorian society fiercely divided ever since the mysterious plague known as "The Laz" hit the city of New London and turned thousands into walking corpses. But while some of these zombies are mindless monsters, hungry for human flesh, others can still think, speak, reason, and control their ravenous new appetites.

Just ask Nora Dearly, the young lady of means who was nearly kidnapped by a band of sinister zombies but valiantly rescued by a dashing young man . . . of the dead variety.

Nora and her savior, the young zombie soldier Bram Griswold, fell hopelessly in love. But others feel only fear and loathing for the reanimated dead. Now, as tensions grow between pro- and anti-zombie factions, battle lines are being drawn in the streets. And though Bram is no longer in the New Victorian army, he and his ex-commando zombie comrades are determined to help keep the peace. That means taking a dangerous stand between The Changed, a radical group of sentient zombies fighting for survival, and The Murder, a masked squad of urban guerrillas hellbent on destroying the living dead. But zombies aren't the only ones in danger: Their living allies are also in The Murder's crosshairs, and for one vengeful zealot, Nora Dearly is the number one target.

As paranoia, prejudice, and terrorist attacks threaten to plunge the city into full-scale war, Nora's scientist father and his team continue their desperate race to unlock the secrets of "The Laz" and find a cure. But their efforts may be doomed when a mysterious zombie appears bearing an entirely new strain of the virus-and the nation of New Victoria braces for a new wave of the apocalypse.

Lia Habel's spellbinding, suspenseful sequel to Dearly, Departed takes her imaginative mash-up of period romance, futuristic thriller, and zombie drama to a whole new level of innovative and irresistible storytelling.

OMG!!! How freaking gorgeous is this cover right?!! I love it!! If you haven't read Dearly, Departed (which has a stunning cover BTW) I highly recommend you do. It is really good. It is not your typical zombie book. I loved that book and I am super excited for this one. Right before I put together this post I got approved for it from NetGalley!! SQUEE!!! Since it doesn't come out for a few months I need to force myself to wait a little longer before reading it though, and I still can't wait until it's out in the world so I can get a pretty Hardcover copy of it!!!

  1. I love the cover, the lace is really pretty but Zombies... ehh not my thing. There's just something about extremely crazed and hard to kill creatures that freak me out. Ha ha. Vamps, Weres, Aliens, Ghosts, sure. Zombies... eeek!

    1. These books aren't like that at all. The zombies (well some of them) are just like real people, but rotting a little. Lol!! It really isn't like a zombie book. You really should read Dearly, Departed. I think you will be surprised.

  3. I can't freaking wait to read this one. I just got it last week too and am still high on delight. I'm having a hard time reading all the other books for review that come out before it. It's begging to be read. It's my most anticipated book this year!! I'm getting anxious just commenting about it now!

    1. It's really not what people expect. People see zombies and then love story and get all weird about it, but it's actually really great.
