Five Favorite Vacation Spots

I’ve been asked to name my Top 5 Vacation Spots, and I find this rather difficult.  The reason of the difficulty is that I have many places I absolutely love.  In my former life as a hotel and travel industry executive, I was fortunate to have traveled to many amazing places, many of which I have used in my books.  The top 5 places that I absolutely adore are:

#5 – Seattle, WA – I love the creative and environmentally friendly atmosphere of this city.  It’s laid back but sophisticated at the same time.  Not to mention this place is known for grunge music and coffee houses which speaks to my inner poet.  
#4 – Whistler, Vancouver, Victoria , Canada – If you love natural beauty, this place is magnificent.  Snow-cap mountains, pristine lakes, and colorful gardens make this place a true getaway.
#3 – Florence, Italy – If you love culture, history, and mystery; Florence is the place to go.  The architecture and art, along with festivals are breathtaking and takes you back to a time when romance was alive in every aspect.  When I was in Europe, doing my grand tour as a college student, I met some of the most warmest people in Italy and made lifelong friends with them, many of whom I can call “sisters”.
#2 – New York City  (Manhattan), New York – There is nowhere like New York City.  When I’m here, I feel more alive than anything.   The buzz of the city, the energy sweeps me away, and I’m always eager to explore the many cultural attractions (Broadway), shopping, and restaurants in town.  
#1 -  London, England – One of my favorite places where I have the fortune to visit often…so often that I even lived in England while studying abroad.  There is so much history, culture, and humor associated with London.  I have many fond memories here, many of which are romantic and adventurous, and I have many coming of age experiences in London as I spent my “new adult” and college years here.  No wonder so many of my books are set in England (Steampunk Scarlett, Alchemists Academy, Never Land, Wordwick Games…)

If you get a chance to travel and explore new places, please go.  I encourage everyone to expand their horizon in life and in travel, and to reach out and go for your full potential!
