Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
Anyone can play along! You should too, it's really fun and a
great way to find out about other awesome books, and blogs. Just
do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Wow it's been a while since I have done one of these. I am going to do a teaser from Butter by Erin Jade Lange. This book is quite disturbing, but I can't stop reading. It's good, just the subject matter and how things are going is frustrating.

A lonely obese boy everyone calls "Butter" is about to make history. He is going to eat himself to death-live on the Internet-and everyone is invited to watch. When he first makes the announcement online to his classmates, Butter expects pity, insults, and possibly sheer indifference. What he gets are morbid cheerleaders rallying around his deadly plan. Yet as their dark encouragement grows, it begins to feel a lot like popularity. And that feels good. But what happens when Butter reaches his suicide deadline? Can he live with the fallout if he doesn't go through with his plans? With a deft hand, E.J. Lange allows readers to identify with both the bullies and the bullied in this all-consuming look at one teen's battle with himself.

"I can't take another year in this fat suit, but I can end this year with a bang. If you can stomach it, you're invited to watch... as I eat myself to death. (14 of 316 of eARC on Nook)
I am really into this book. I know I usually do more that one teaser, but I wasn't planning on doing a TT so I was totally unprepared. Leave me a link to your Tuesday post and I will check it out!!
I liked this one a lot more than I had anticipated! Can't wait to see what you think in the end.
ReplyDeleteOMG!! I couldn't stop reading!! It's not like it was a super page turner or anything, but I just had to know!!! I really did enjoy it. I read it in a day. I wasn't sure what to think going into it, but it was a great book.
DeleteThis book sounds so disturbing but good. I'm somewhat scared to read it. I'm definitely looking forward to reading your review and hearing your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people feel very disturbed by it, but it was actually a very good story about bullying and finding yourself.
DeleteThat's a very disturbing line. I saw this galley but kept on past it. The whole story just makes me squimish. I look forward to seeing your review though :)
ReplyDeleteThis book really took me by surprise. It was really good. I loved getting to know Butter. He's really an awesome funny kid.
DeleteHmmm...disturbing is really a good word for how I feel right now. Makes me sad ... could it be the teacher in me freaking out? Probably...that and the mom.

You don't even know how many times I was super mad at the mom in this book. She totally enables him. The thing I really enjoyed about this book was seeing how everyone else was really a part of how he got to this point and wondering what was going to happen and if he would get the support or be strong enough to not go through with it.
DeleteLove your teaser.. My TT.
ReplyDeleteNew Follower! :D
Thanks. This book was pretty good!
ReplyDeleteGreat teaser! I love the premise of the story. Not that the kid wants to eat himself to death...but the social commentary and the psychological aspects. I'm looking forward to your review!
ReplyDeleteThat was exactly why I wanted to read the book. Obviously the eating himself t death thing is disturbing, but I wanted to know about how he got to that point and if there is any way for him to change his life and not go through with the plan. Bullying books get me every time. I can't resist them.
DeleteI've heard some great things about Butter and that teaser has made me want to read it even more! I hope you are enjoying/ enjoyed the book. :)
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if you could stop by my Teaser Tuesday post. :)

ReplyDeleteI'm nervous to read this one. It sounds good but like it might be a heart-wrencher!! Great teaser though!!
