Everyone dreams of that first kiss. Of that magic moment when your lips finally meet those of that special person you’ve waited your whole life for. A little awkward, a little scary, a little hot and every bit amazing. We speculate that the whole world will shake and time will just stop. No one, however, ever imagines that kiss to bring Death himself knocking.

Sixteen year old Mercy Moore's life just got more complicated. The kiss that originally could have meant she would finally have a boyfriend now was the kiss that could have very nearly ended his life. A small detail her mother conveniently never told her will take her life for an abrupt u-turn. Dating, no love, was now completely and utterly impossible. And the boy well, that boy would never be the same.

But life, however cruel, goes on. Far too soon for her taste, Mercy finds herself at a senior party with the elite students of her school and her best friend. And of all things, playing a stupid game that could very well mean the death of someone in that small room. If it were not for her best friend, the hottest guys in school, and a small need to fit in, she may have been able to escape the disaster that was to come. Her worst nightmare, her personal curse, her very life, only gets dangerously worse.

This is a young adult paranormal romance novel.

My Thoughts

This book totally took me by surprise. I mean, it has a gorgeous cover and the overview sounded really awesome, but this book was so much more!! So we know we have a girl who has the ability to kill with a kiss, but there are so many other aspects to this story that had me totally hooked. There is a lot of paranormal going on in this book, but not so much it's overwhelming. Then we have complicated romance, (And let me tell you, that is an understatement.) and a good mystery.

So we have Mercy who is the main character and really as much as I wanted to smack her sometimes, I loved her. She makes a lot of dumb choices, but she's a teenager so she's supposed to. She can be whiny, emotional, and totally oblivious, but she's also really smart. I got mad at her for seemingly leading on a whole bunch of people, but I kinda get that she's not really totally in control. I can't say anymore without spoiling anything though.

Okay so then there's the whole romance thing. I can't even really call it a love triangle because chick has like four guys or more that are totally into her and she get's all freaking mixed up in all her feelings even though she is certain that she is in love with a certain one. It's not as confusing as I am making it sound. Well, maybe a little, but for real it was great. I wanted to be like, "Dude, Luke is so awesome to you why are you all hot for Flynn?" Then I'm all #TeamFlynn. Then I want to be like, "Paul was there for you from the beginning, he is so deserving of you!" Then not. Next, "Sebastian is uber creepy!! Tell yourself to take a cold shower chick!!" Seriously I was all over the place. I loved Luke so much, but when it became apparent he wasn't telling her something I started to not love him as much, but it also seemed like he wanted to, so I was torn. Then Flynn lets the real him start to show and I adored him. Like wanted everyone else out of the picture. Let me tell you, what a romance circle thingy going on!!

You're now wondering about the story I'm sure. Yes, it was a fantastic story. Mercy goes through so much as does everyone else too. I was constantly thinking, I knew what was coming, but I really only had it right half the time and even then it was still so good that it didn't matter if I knew. Then there is the mystery too and seriously I had no clue about the outcome of that. The characters were all really well done and I became invested in not only the story, but them too. I can't even really say anything about this except you should so read this. I thought it was a bit on the long side and some stuff was a bit unnecessary in it, but I enjoyed this book a lot.

    1. It was really great!! I was hooked. I love when a book has me really wanting to know what is going on and I can't quite figure it out. Some things were obvious and predictable, but it didn't bother me at all!

  2. Wow, I love books that take you by surprise! I've only had a few of those, books like Grave Mercy, that completely shocked me by how good they were. But it's so fun to be completly surprised by a book once in a while. ;)

Wow, a 'love circle thingy'? This definitely sound interesting! I don't think I've ever read a book with a love circle thingy (I am becoming fond of this term!), except maybe for Storm? Although I don't really think that counts. Nonetheless, the romance definitely sounds complicated, to say the least.

Mercy also sounds like a very complicated and messed up teenager! I mean, killing with a kiss? I'm super interested to see how that affects her both mentally and physically. Even though she has her annoying moments, I still think I'd love her as a character like you did, Amy!

Fantastic review as always, Amy! <3

  3. Awesome review! This book sounds like a lot of fun. I loved your commentary on the boys in this book. Too funny!!! I really like the concept of this one, paranormal romances are my fav! By the end of this one, do you think there will be a spinoff or is it more of a standalone?

  4. Eeeep! Love the rater chickie! Also I feel like the blockquote is new, but maybe not? Anyway, it looks fantastic!

I love that you were all about her going for different guys at different times in the novel, I like not being able to pick who's best haha.

    Great review chickie!

    1. Yes, the blockquote and raters are new. Giselle did them yesterday for me. :) Ahhh this book was really great. Now that my review is up and I keep thinking about it I am wondering if I should have rated it higher. I really did love it. I need to get the next book.

  5. Wow it's like a love quartet? bahah. That sounds actually pretty neat and unique. I love when the MC is all mixed up in her feelings and you wonder who she's going to choose. And killing with a kiss sounds... inconvenient >.< I hadn't heard of this book at all before, and the fact that it's actually unpredictable is definitely a great sign for me! I always guess every darn freaking plot twist lately! Oh I must just be too smart for my own good #hairflip

    1. Lol!! I figured out some things that were coming, but not other things. And I was so torn and upset over all the boy business. I have my favorite, but I won't say. Sometimes I feel to smart for my own good too haha!

  6. Four guys! That would normally make me doubtful, but after reading Brigid Kemmerer's ELEMENTAL series I'm much more open-minded. :) Great review, Amy, this sounds like a fun read!

    1. Oh, there's a reason for it, that's why it didn't irk me. If it was just her being all playing around that would have been different. This was a great read.

  7. Hmm I actually don't like love triangles that much, much less a love square but when the protagonist isn't sure which one they like better and it feels really compelling I love it! :) Awesome review Amy I'm glad th is one surprised you!

    1. I'm totally not a fan of love triangles either, but there was a reason behind all the boy confusion thing which I can't say what without giving stuff away. It really makes sense to why though when you know what's going on lol!!

  8. How fun! I love your one-sided convo about the guys. Too funny! This seriously sounds like a great story. Awesome review, Amy!

    1. I was having a war in my head about it!! I totally got her whole struggle with the situation. It's so funny because I hate love triangles and things like that, but I loved this because it was there for a very valid reason. And there is a reason why some of the boys are bad choices even though you want them to be a good one. *sigh* love knows no bounds right?! If only it were that easy haha!!

  14. I was somewhat hesitant to read this series at first but once I started, I was hooked. There were some typo errors throughout the story but that is to be expected from an ebook, once they are fixed it will be amazing.
