JLA is one of my favorite authors so of course I was jumping for joy at getting to be part of this! So for my stop I was lucky enough to get to do an interview with JLA. Overview

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time."

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

Author Interview

BLM: Thanks so much for doing this interview. I know you are crazy busy.

JLA: No problem. So happy to be here.

BLM: You have had so many books come out in the past year and have a lot coming out in the upcoming months. How do you manage to find the time to write such fabulous books so quickly?

JLA: The next couple of months are crazy, but a lot of the books coming out in the Fall were written several years ago and the contracts just fell into place like that. So it looks like I wrote all of them in ten minutes.

BLM: I'm sure you get this one all the time, but how do you come up with such swoon worthy guys and snarky bad ass chicks for your books?

JLA: Ha. I really don't know. I love a good swoon-worthy guy and I love a girl that can hold her own against the guys. That's what I'm looking for when I'm reading, so that's what I write.

BLM: When you started writing the covenant series, did you already have the basic idea for the entire series planned out, or was it more of a "just go with it" type thing?

JLA: Some of the plot I had from the beginning, when I started writing the Covenant Series, but a lot of it just happens while I'm writing it. I'm notorious with my editors for telling them I'm going to write one thing, but once I get started, it goes in a completely different direction, so they never know what they're getting.

BLM: Are any of your characters based on real people, or are they completely fictional?

JLA: No one in the Covenant Series is based on anyone I know, but Lesa and Carissa in the Lux Series are based on my friends Lesa and Carissa.

BLM: A lot of people don't like love triangles in books. How do you manage to do it so well that us adoring readers can't help but absolutely love it? I know that for a while I was totally undecided on Seth or Aiden.

JLA: I'm glad to hear it's down well. I really, really worked hard at giving both boys equal show time, showing their pros and cons, why they'd both be good for Alex for different reasons. And I think what helps is that Alex didn't fall in love with both of them. Her feelings for Seth and Aiden are very different. Just like their feelings for her are different.

BLM: Speaking of love interests. You are a master at character chemistry and romance. What are some of your favorite books for bringing the smexy?

JLA: Aw, thank you. I like me some smexy. Some good, smexy YA books are: Soul Screamers, Carrier of the Mark, Touch, Sweet Evil, Playing Hurt, Torn (Tangled and Bound), and Shade trilogy. The good thing about them is there is more than just the smexy. They have great stories and plots to them.

BLM: I totally agree with those. Well, the ones I have read out of those anyways. ;)

A lot of authors say that their characters speak to them. Does that happen with you? Do your characters "tell you" how a scene is going to go or change your mind about the way the story is going?

JLA: Yes. That's why I can't plot a book, because the characters kind of take over. Sometimes I mimic what my characters are saying while I'm writing, and yes, that looks as insane as it sounds.

BLM: Do you listen to music while you write or use music as inspiration for certain scenes?

JLA: Yes. When I'm writing action scenes mostly. And sometimes some smexy scenes.

BLM: If you had to pick a theme song for Deity what would it be?

JLA: "Set Fire to the Rain" Adele (I hope that's the right title)

BLM: I love that song! Great pick!

  1. Great interview! It's kinda awesome how at least one character in a book is always based on a real person. I don't think I've come across an author who has not done this!

My blog is now an award free zone. I really appreciate the thought, but stopping by is reward enough for me. Thank you so much!!

I have been getting a ridiculous amount of spam comments so I have disabled anonymous comments. If you are an anonymous user and a real person, I apologize.

I love comments! I will try to respond to as many as I can. I read every one of them, even if I do not respond to them all.
