The day I turned 16, my boyfriend-to-be died. I brought him back to life. Then things got a little weird...

Molly Bartolucci wants to blend in, date hottie Rick and keep her zombie-raising abilities on the down-low. Then the god Anubis chooses her to become a reaper—and she accidentally undoes the work of another reaper, Rath. Within days, she's shipped off to the Nekyia Academy, an elite boarding school that trains the best necromancers in the world. And her personal reaping tutor? Rath.

Life at Nekyia has its plusses. Molly has her own personal ghoul, for one. Rick follows her there out of the blue, for another...except, there's something a little off about him. When students at the academy start to die and Rath disappears, Molly starts to wonder if anything is as it seems. Only one thing is certain—-Molly's got an undeadly knack for finding trouble....

Rick was standing in the living room, staring at our bookshelves. He hled a can of 7-Up and he took a sip as he studied the necro books.
He turned, checked out my blouse (and okay, my boobs), and smiled.
He put down the soda on the coffee table and stretched out his hand. Heart pounding, I took it and he drew me into his arms.
Holy. Freaking. Anubis.
"You're very pretty." he said. I smelled mints and the tang of 7-Up. My heart beat faster still and my knees went all mooshy.
"Thanks," I whispered.
His blue eyes darkened. His tongue darted out to wet his lips. Remember when I said I had no social life? Dad had rules about me and boys - as in never the twain shall meet (another point to Mrs. Dawson). Sixteen was the magic number for dating. And driving. And everything else.
"You nervous?" he asked softly, his face dropping closer to mine.
"Liar." He chuckled.
I didn't answer because silence was better than admitting he was right.
He drew me closer and I realized how muscular he was. He was six inches taller than me too, even with my two-inch boot heels making up some of the height difference.
"I really like you." he said
"I really like you too."
"Good." Then he lowered his lips toward mine -

  1. Oh, I really did enjoy that part of the book, although I wish things would have been a bit more developed at the beginning to make the moment sweeter. While this wasn't my favorite book around, I actually did enjoy this one (although I know this wasn't your cup of tea, Amy). Some of the moments really were cute though!

    Thanks for sharing! <3

    1. I'm glad that you liked it. It always makes me sad when I want to like a book and just don't.

  2. That excerpt melted my heart! I can't wait to read this one! Thanks for sharing :)

    1. That excerpt gets really odd after where I left off. Lol!!

  3. Gah, I really wanted to like this one, but I read a bit of it and just couldn't go on. Such a good concept but such an annoying MC!

    1. I know! I loved the idea of the Egyptian Myth and the reaper thing, but I couldn't stand the MC.

  4. What's MC? :D LOL. And that excerpt is quite swoon-worthy. Too bad I'm not from the States (or Canada for that matter.. usually Europeans don't have that many opportunities with giveaways, shipping cost sucks, because I know how much the authors appreciate all the fans around the world -.- but what the heck, I'm glad whenever a fellow booklover ends up winning a great book:)) Well.. nicely presented post and hope you have better luck with other books :)

    Have a lovely day!

  11. I'm seeing this one all over. I like the excerpt. Thanks for sharing!

  12. I loved the scene with her *dad* that came after this. Great excerpt choice!
