This event is hosted by Jessica from Confessions of a Bookaholic, Rachel from Fiktshun, Jaime from Two Chicks on Books and Mindy from Magical Urban Fantasy Reads. Today the best of 2012 topic was blogger/readers choice and I chose sequels!! Some of the best books I read this year were sequels and this is the only reason I was able to keep my first best books of 2012 list down. Once again these aren't in order, they are just my top favorites.
Pandemonium (Delirium #2) by Lauren Oliver - If you have read this you know what I am talking about!! I know some people were shocked by the ending. I wasn't shocked, I saw it coming, but I was totally caught off guard by how I felt about it! I never thought for a second I would have felt the way I did at the end of that book. Oh, and way to leave us hanging!! I am so glad that I have Requiem (Thanks HarperTeen & Edelweiss) because I couldn't stand waiting until March! The wait already has been torture. Will be reading Requiem very soon.
Siege (As the World Dies #3) by Rhiannon Frater - This is the third and final book in the series. I loved them all, but by the time I got to this one, I was so invested in the story and the characters. This book made me cry the ugly cry!! I was whimpering and holding myself with a box of tissues in my hand. Talk about a fantastic ending to a series though!!
*This cover has also had a makeover for the mass market paperback that comes out in April 2013, but this is the one I have so this is the cover I used.
Onyx (Lux#2) and Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout - (I only put the Opal cover though) It's no secret I am a huge JLA fan. I loved Onyx like you wouldn't believe. I liked seeing the newer side of Daemon and the story progressed to a new level of awesome! Well, in Opal, I love Daemon even more. Yes, it is possible. Opal is probably the most swoony, quote worthy out of the series so far. I highlighted every other page in my nook!! And that ending!! I wanted to scream and yell and throw a tantrum. I'm so glad that we only have to wait until July for Origin, and even that seems too far away.
Tempting the Player (Gamble Brothers #2) by J. Lynn - This is an adult contemporary romance. Not YA, not NA. Just in case... Wow, I thought I liked Chase in Tempting the Best Man, but Chad is just oozing sexiness in this. I loved reading his story and seeing if he could be tamed. We still get some of the characters from TtBM, but it's not necessary to read that one to enjoy this. I highly suggest it though. It just adds to the awesomeness, and that one is amazing too.
Before I Wake (Soul Screamers #6) by Rachel Vincent - I know this is the 6th book in the series, but I consider anything after the first a sequel. I read the first few books in this series before I started blogging, and I think I read the 5th book right when I started. All of the books in this series are "must read the second it comes out" books to me. I love Rachel Vincent's writing, I love her books!! I can't get enough!
Exhale (Just Breathe #2) by Kendall Grey - Wow! That is all I have to say about this series. I loved Inhale, I loved Exhale, I am dying for Kendall to finish Just Breathe!! (You hear that Kendall!!) This is also an adult series. It has bad language, hot sex, and all that! This one steps things up a lot from the first book and OMG that ending. I wanted to tear someone apart! I was crying and angry at the end of this book. This is another one of those examples where you are so connected with the characters that you feel their emotions with them.
Release (The Protector #3) by M.R. Merrick - The books in this series are almost non-stop action. The characters are all wonderful, the plot is amazing, and the visual imagery is fantastic!! Each book gets better and better! Though, this was the first book in the series that I found myself mad at M.R. Merrick at the end. I wanted to throw my nook across the room. I am eagerly awaiting the fourth and final book in this series.
Hallowed (Unearthly #2) by Cynthia Hand - I am not a big fan of Angel books. Very few have actually kept my interest and made me pine for the next book. It's not to say there aren't ones that I like because I can name plenty, but I don't tend to read them. Now this series is among one of my favorites!! I love the writing, I love the story, and I am not at all bothered by the love triangle. I actually like it! (Though I'm Team Tucker all the way!!!) These characters have worked their way into my heart and I can't wait for Boundless to see how it all ends! (Please pick Tucker!!)
Pure (Covenant #2) and Deity ( Covenant #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout - Oh how I love this series!! Aiden melts my heart. Seth makes me want to stab things, and Leon and Alex make me laugh so hard!! I don't even know what to say except I just love these books!! I pretty much just fan girled in my reviews. I get so caught up in the story that I read and read and don't even realize how much time has passed or what is going on around me.
And that is what I have. I know there's only 9 covers, but I figured since I kinda cheated with the JLA books I should stop. That's not to say that I didn't love some other sequels too, but those are my tops!!!

Oh Pandemonium! I totally saw that ending coming. I was waiting and waiting for it. I was pretty pissed with the whole book that Julian was even introduced. Opal, Before I Wake, and Hallowed were all great too. Yay for Team Tucker! I really hate Christian!
ReplyDeleteMy Top 10
My thing with Pandemonium was I went from being angry to starting to like Julian, to falling for him and that is why the ending was tough for me. I didn't expect I would be so... confused about how I felt. And woohoo!! Team Tucker FTW!!!
DeleteLove Cynthia Hand! I can't to read new books next year :)
ReplyDeleteI know!! OMG I am pretty much dying for Boundless!!!
DeleteYay, Hallowed!! I told ppl I didn't like angel books, then I read Unearthly (thanks to some pushy tweeps--lol) and LOVED it. Hallowed was such a great sequel & I'm all about Tucker!!! Can't wait for Boundless

Got the SS series too and can't wait to read that series. Yes, Deity was freaking fantastic! Can't wait for Apollyon! Great choices Amy!

Loved Opal but I will admit I liked Onyx more and OMG Pandemonium damn that book lol
ReplyDeleteJaime @ Two Chicks On Books
Some really fabulous sequels! I hated Pandemonium's endings, I thought Lauren Oliver was too cruel with that one. But at least it's almost time for Requiem's release! I can't wait to see who Lena chooses. I'm totally Team Alex. ;) And I totally agree about the love triangle in Unearthly and Hallowed! That book is so beautiful, and I surprised myself by not hating the love triangle, which I almost always hate in other books. But I enjoyed reading it in Hallowed, since it was so well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat list Amy! I'm excited to read even more sequels in 2013. =)
Excellent choices!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any 2012 sequels yet! I read so many first books in series this year and I guess I'm really going to have to try to finish all the series next year.
ReplyDeleteKrystianna @ Downright Dystopian
Now I really want to know what the Pandemonium/Delirium thing is about. Should probably read the books, but I'm not sure if I need to get spoiled to be able to start or if getting spoiled might keep me from reading.. Hm, anyway, great list!
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays,
Patricia
