Review: Strings by Kendall Grey

  • Publisher: Howling Mad Press, LLC
  • Publication date: 5/1/2013
  • Series: Hard Rock Harlots , #1

WARNING: STRINGS is not suitable for slut shamers, uptight stone throwers, Holier-Than-Thou prudes, humorless virgins, persons with chronic neck or back pain, pearl-clutching bitties, those who disparage crude humor or vulgarity in their many forms, closed-minded people with sticks up their asses, or anyone under the age of 18. The vile, base language and shocking, unholy sexual acts contained herein are not condoned by anyone with a lick of sense and should certainly not be reproduced without proper training and protection. The potty-mouthed and perpetually horny "heroine" (the term is used loosely) of this book does not resemble a normal, well-adjusted, or remotely believable person in any way, shape, or form. The author acknowledges that the characters in this book are shallow and two-dimensional; the plot is both ridiculous and insipid. She makes no apologies for any of it.

Free-spirited musician Letty Dillinger adheres to a strict, “no strings attached” policy when it comes to men. After a wild night of unabashed sex in a fancy hotel room, she never expects to see the adventurous stud she dubs “Shades” again. When her all-girl rock trio books a tour at the last minute as the opening act for their archenemies, Letty’s shocked to discover she knows the competition’s new lead singer. Intimately. Shades is no longer a one-night stand. Now he’s the guy she has to one-up on stage every night for the sake of her career.

Sharing close quarters on a bus with her sexy nemesis and his bad-boy buddies puts Letty’s Golden Rule to the test. On this tour, guitar strings aren’t the only things being played. And when heartstrings are pulled too hard, they’re bound to snap sooner or later.

*** This book is intended for adults only! It is very mature and has some very graphic sexual scenes and obscene language. It is an erotic novel. My review will be relatively clean though, with the exception of a few expletives.

My Thoughts

Okay so first off, I have to say that the warning should totally be taken into consideration. This book is dirty, sexy, hilariously funny, and totally inappropriate for anyone who is even slightly offended by any of those things. Now, with that said, this book was freaking awesome!! Kendall Grey continues to make me fan girl over her books. I absolutely love her writing, and in this she holds nothing back. It was so fun to read!!  With colorful language, and super fun and creative names for certain body parts and sex acts, I was so entertained.

I instantly liked Letty, she was one super hot mess, but I loved her "don't give a shit" attitude. She doesn't hold back at all. She says what she is thinking and most of the time it is brash and hilarious. She is not a fluffy, girly girl. She is a hot rocker chick, who only has one goal in life. Music. She's up for a good time in the sack, or bathroom stall, or against a bus... but she doesn't want anything, especially a guy to get in the way of her making it big as a musician. She is also very level headed too. She may seem impulsive, crazy, inappropriate or any number of things, but this girl has got her head straight. I don't even know what else to say about her. She was so fun to read!!

Now there's Shades!! OMG he is sex on a stick!! I was pretty much a puddle of goo. Even before knowing he was a rocker, he still was super sexy in my eyes. The first scene with Shades and Letty (aka Lucky to him) was super freaking hot and steamy. Like, have some ice cubes on hand steamy. And that was tame compared to some of the other sex scenes. He is a man who knows what he wants, how to get it, and get it when he wants it. He has no issues with exploring new things, and he was also kinda sweet too. Though, he hides that part pretty well most of the time. I was totally smitten with him right from the start and couldn't get enough!

So basically, there is a story to this. Cherry Buzz Float, Letty's all girl band, goes on tour with Killer Dixon, all guy band and they hate each other. The thing is, Letty and Shades can't get enough of each other and it steams up this book. There is a lot of sex, so just know going into it, that's mostly what you are going to get. I did really love the underlying story though, and I liked most of the characters with the exception of Kate, who I kind of wanted to kick in the vag! Both bands are really intense about their music and all of them just want to make it big. They just need to learn to work together and not against each other. This was fabulous, sexy, trashy, fun, and I loved every second of it. Take it for what it is, a fun, awesome, erotic novel. I can't wait for the next book, Beats to get Jinx's story!! Bring on the smut Kendall!!

  1. I love Kendall Grey's books but I honestly don't think this book is for me. I read a few reviews on Goodreads and some of them had quotes from the book and let's just say it wasn't for me.
I'm glad you liked it though. Sometimes, having a fun, smutty book is great after reading dark books!
    Lovely reviw, Amy!

  5. Hmmm, it sounds interesting but I don't know...I need romance. Not that I don;t mind the sex but if that all that is between them...then it doesn't catch me.

I do think it funny about the author note on the book!

  7. "Now there's Shades!! OMG he is sex on a stick!!" Hahaha I loved that line! I saw the cover and was like "This looks really intriguing!" but I probably won't read it since I'm still a few years off that 18 mark ;P But I'm glad you loved it! Letty sounds like such a hilarious, driven girl and super fun to read about! I also kind of want to know at the same time don't want to know about those first sex scenes ;P

Fantastic review, Amy! I'm glad you loved this one! From the comments below, there's definitely a consensus on the hotness of this one :)
