seduced by power,
broken by control,
and consumed by love...

Vi has made her choice between Jag and Zenn, and the Resistance may have suffered for it. But with the Thinkers as strong as ever, the rebels still have a job to do. Vi knows better than anyone that there's more at stake than a few broken hearts.

But there is a traitor among them...and the choices he makes could lead to the total destruction of everything Vi has fought for.

Vi, Jag, and Zenn must set their problems aside for the Resistance to have any hope of ending the Thinkers' reign. Their success means everything...and their failure means death.

My Thoughts

I have really enjoyed this series and was so excited to read this one. And I'm sorry, but I just have to say it, look at that cover!! This book was one wild ride. There are a lot of secrets and lies and you don't know who to trust or who is going to win this battle in the end! It was not only full of action, but it was emotionally intense. I have grown to care for these characters throughout the books and I genuinely cared what happened to them, whether it's a character I loved, or just one of their friends or allies. My only problem with this book was that I had read the previous one so long before, that it took me a little bit to get back into things and remember what happened at the end of Surrender.

This is told in alternating POV's from Jag and Zenn and I loved that!! Both of these boys are amazing, and they are both great for Vi in their own ways. They hold a special place in my heart. Not only will they both do anything to ensure Vi's safety, and the safety of those they care about, but they do have a long history. It goes deeper than I could have imagined and it made it really hard to read when they are not getting along or at each other constantly. I loved getting to hear the story from both of their POV's because there is so much going on, and often they are both off doing different things so we get a bigger picture of what is really going on. The one thing that they both have in common is their love for Vi, which can bring them together as easily as it pushes them apart.

I can't go into the story without giving anything away, so I will just say that this was great!! It wasn't non stop action, but when you have the lulls between, there is a tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat! I loved the suspense of needing to know what was going to happen. The pounding in my heart in the heat of the action. The tightness in my chest while the emotions in me swirled. This book was able to bring all of that. Dystopian's have been very hit or miss with me recently, but this one definitely delivered. If you are looking for an awesome dystopian series to read with both an engaging plot and fabulous characters, this it one you should pick up! This series may be over, but I will be looking forward to Elana Johnson's future books!!

  2. I read the first book and only kind of liked it. I like Zenn but not Jag. I think? I liked the friend guy not the new guy she met. LOL It was kind of a confusing world for me but unique. The covers are great though!

  3. I ought to read this series, I've been just staring at them- but never have been motivated to read them. Looks like I will now! I'm not a huge fan of multiple POVs as they make me go crazy with confusion at times.

    Fantastic review, Amy! <33

  10. I seriously need to read this series, for the simple fact that the main character's name is Vi, alone. LOL. I love a book w/nonstop action that keeps you entertained and glued to the pages. I have to check this one out. Great review!
