Book Girls Don't Cry - My Non-Shelf Book Organization.

Hello everyone!!Welcome to another week of Book Girls!! This weeks our topic was how we organize shelves or reading piles. Something like that. This is a pretty fun topic, and I was actually going to do a vlog, but hubs was home because he just couldn't take working long days in the ridiculous heat we've been having. Seriously, the heat index has been over 100 the past few days!

So, I didn't do a vlog, but I did take a few pics. I admit, I do not have a bookshelf. Our living room is pretty small and my computer desk already takes up a bunch of space, so I store most of my books upstairs in a spare room... in plastic bins. I know!! I wish I could have all my pretties out on display, but hubs also thinks once you've read a book there's no use for it besides taking up space. He doesn't get it. He's not a reader. I do have the books I need to read (and want to read) stacked in a somewhat organized manner on my computer desk though.

These are books that I want to get to soon, ones I just read, unsolicited books that I want to try to get to, or ones that I just got in the mail that week that I need to put in my StS. This is the bottom of my computer desk. I'm sure that you can see all the wires lol! The ones I just read I need to put upstairs, and the ones I need to put in my StS will be organized accordingly after I do my vlog, but I like to have them easy to access.

These are my physical ARCs organized by date on my computer desk. Also random swag tucked in there and in front.

This is my computer desk.

Now onto my bins that are upstairs. This one is finished copies that I still haven't read.

This is signed books, whether ARC or finished copies.

This is mostly collectables or whatever lol! I have all sorts of stuff in this bin. Mostly Harry Potter stuff.

This is another bin of books. It was mostly all books I have read, but it's starting to get ones that I need to read still too.

I have a few other bins too, and books piled on top of bins, but this has been embarrassing enough, so I will wrap it up. Oh, I forgot to take a pic of my kindle, but I organize all my books in there by shelf. I have Blog Tour/Review, ARCs from Netgalley/Edelweiss, To Read Soon, Unread, and Read.

How do you organize your shelves and books you need to read? What do you think about my ridiculous set up? Let me know in the comments. Also, feel free to leave topic suggestions on the form in the Book Girls tab!

Love ya!!

  1. Great post Amy! I always love to see how everyone else organizes their books. I actually organize my books in a similar way to you. I organize my tbr arcs by date on my shelf and use post its with the dates to have everything read by. :)

    1. Yes, I also have lists with all the books coming out in the next two month listed by date that I need to read. It helps keep me on schedule... when I don't get behind. Lol!

  2. O__O I don't think I'd ever be able to put my books in 'bins' but def. saves a lot of room! But oooh, so many awesome titles I want to snag. I will def break into your house one day, you have been warned. *dramatic music plays*

Thanks for sharing, lovely post! <33

    1. They are in the bins nicely, but it's still sad to have them all hidden away. I think I am going to build shelves in the spare room and make it my library.

  3. That's a good organizing system in my opinion. Of course it sucks that you don't have a huge shelf to display these pretties on, but it isn't the end of the world and you've done awesome with organizing them:)

    1. Yeah, I know where all of them are at least a book or want one, it's easy to find. I do want to make that room a library though. :)

  4. OMG! I seriously just typed like 15 paragraphs for a comment and it just WENT AWAY! Oh I could scream! That was like 15 minutes of typing GONE! Comments (on all blogger blogs) have been doing that to me lately. I'm typing away and then they disappear.

So I'm not going to say it all again, sorry. But kind of the gist of it is that my husband doesn't get the book think either, but he's gotten use to it. So I have bookcases all over the house and he deals with them without complaint (anymore anyway). But before we had a house and were in an apartment I had books in tubs under beds, hidden in the backs of kitchen cupboards, etc. I just can't imagine going back to not being able to see my books. I may be slightly obsessed with looking at them.

    1. Ahhhh!! Blogger fail!! I hate it when that happens. I have made it a habit now that if I type a really long comment I will copy it so if it gets deleted (which they always seem to when they are long) I can just paste it in again. I want to look at all my pretties. I will eventually just have that room as a library.

  5. The bins are a good idea, Amy. My books are really organized, but it's been a process. I have mine organized by category and in alphabetical order. I admit, I'm a bit obsessive about it. My husband even built me a sliding bookshelf that lays under my bed. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I don't like having my books hidden away, but at least they are safe in the bins. They all have covers on them. I don't even know how I would organize if I had shelves up. Probably by color lol!!

  6. Awww, your poor books, hidden away in bins. Lol. I do pretty much the same thing with my ARCs, but I have a small bookshelf I pile them on, rather than my desk.

  7. Totally sucks when the "hubby's don't "get it" mine HATES me blogging and doesn't get why I must read so much, he's outdoorsy and would rather spend all day outside fishing, hiking, tinkering, etc... At least your organized and know where all your books are.

    1. My hubs just doesn't get the point. He loves movies, but doesn't like books. I tell him that books are better than movies to me.

  9. The scary word you said was organized? Um..I do have bookshelves but it doesn't seem to help my organization thing. For me, it's a time thing. Rather read than organize with the very limited time I usually have. Summer is a time I should organize but it hasn't happened. ;)

    1. Haha!! I try to keep organized because I am horrible at trying to schedule myself so if I'm organized it helps me.

  10. Bahhaah "mostly collectables or whatever" you sound like you cherish them so much! I love your bins it's so much cleaner than my "dump it wherever" habit!! I also love how you stack them by dates (for the arcs) Jenni does that too but dude that looks time consuming! haha.

ok I saw your puppy in your STS post so enough of books I'm off to see him! (or her?)

    1. I like the bins, but I also want my books out where I can look at them. I don't get a whole lot of physical ARC's so when I get a new one in it's easy to tuck in in where it belongs.

The pup is a boy. His name is Lou. :)

  11. I have three 'working' bookshelves. I keep my pretty signed copies upstairs away from little hands. Then I have ones I'm currently reading in an organized mess in my family room. Then, I have my 'to be read' book in my bedroom. Scattered, I know, but it works for me. lol

  12. YAY for keeping our books in tupperweres. I do the same thing.

  13. OMG! This hurts my head for some reason. You are too funny, I love that you are a book blogger without bookshelves! How ironic is that?? Well you have found something that works for you so you might as well just go with it!

  14. Amy, I have a ton of books in storage from before I started blogging, and I need more room! Most of my books are ebooks, but I'm running out of room for my physical copies. I like the idea of plastic bins. It keeps your books safe from dust, and getting destroyed, and I think it's the perfect solution to not having enough space. My hubby isn't a reader either, he thinks blogging is to much work., and doesn't understand that it's not a chore for me. It's a labor of love. Great post Amy! I enjoyed looking at all of your ;pics!

  15. Ugh, my hubby's not a reader either...except for boring news stuff on the computer or on his cell O.O I so wish he'd get it, you know? LOL anyways I DO have bookshelves though, my motto is: love me, love my books bahaha Anyways my to-read piles are organized like yours pretty much. I have a stack of what I plan on reading next and then another stack for ones coming up. Most of my BEA books are on the floor though *gasp* I just don't have enough room and can't afford a bigger bookshelf right now. Thanks for sharing your bookish habits Amy , I loved seeing your pictures!

PS-I'd love to get into that Harry Potter bin with collectibles ♥
