Picking up where Beautiful Bastard left off, Chloe Mills and Bennett Ryan continue their steamy, combative relationship.
Just when Chloe’s career starts to take off, Bennett wishes it would all slow down long enough to spend a wild night alone with his girlfriend. But after he refuses to take no for an answer, Chloe and Bennett find themselves with two plane tickets, one French Villa, and a surprising conversation that, predictably, leaves them wrestling under the covers.
This series is really fun. I have been really enjoying it. I loved how hot and cold Bennett and Chloe were in the first book, and loved that they were just what the other needed. I was so excited to see how they do in their actual relationship with each other on a romantic getaway. This isn't just about their trip though, there are also flashbacks to how things were when they first got together which leads to why they need this alone time together so much. You really got to see how much they care for each other though. We knew they had great sexual chemistry and that they ended up falling for each other, but we don't see their couple time like in this one. Told in both of their POV's, it's quick and fun story.
Bennett is totally head over heels in love with Chloe, but feels like he is always missing her. They seem to almost never get any real alone time together. Work is in the way, friends are in the way, or it's something else. It is a constant battle to find time together, so he has this idea to go on a vacation to a secluded place. He knows she is going to fight him on it, but he hopes that she wants this as bad as he does. Of course, things don't go as planned and outside factors make the vacation get off to a rough start, but he is determined to make the rest of it perfect.
Chloe is very career driven. She has a strong sense of self, and she is stubborn as hell. Yes, she wants a getaway with Bennett, but there's too much to do. They will be moving to NY soon where the new offices are, and they still don't even have an apartment. She should be making sure all the work and living situations are handled, not to mention being there for a friend who is going through a rough time. She shouldn't be off on a romantic vacation while there is still so much to do. She is too much of a workaholic to realize there is never going to be a good time, but this is what her and Bennett need. She is the same spunky girl who refuses to give in, but she knows that this time it's what is right. When things don't quite go as planned, she is a force to be reckoned with and I thought it was awesome!
The narrators were both great for this! Grace Grant has narrated all of the books in this series so far and I think she has just the right voice for it. I liked Kirby for Bennett too. His voice was just about how I imagine Bennett would sound. They both put the right amount of feeling into the characters and I think they complimented each other well. I do think that my enjoyment of this book is largely due to the great narration.
This was another fun story from this series and I look forward to reading or listening to more. I like the characters, and can't wait to see the things that they get up to in the future. Not only Bennett and Chloe, but the side characters as well. I do hope that the same narrators continue to read for this series. I think they really bring the story to life. This was fast, fun, entertaining, and sexy. I can't wait for the next one!
