Darby Quinn has a bone to pick with Cinderella. Burned one too many times by ex-boyfriends, Darby has lost all belief in the happily-ever-after that the fairy-tale princess promised her. She's sworn off love, Prince Charmings, and happy endings and she's happy about it. Really. Or at least she was…until she met Jake, her gorgeous neighbor and the manager of her favorite restaurant. But Darby has rules about dating, ones she's culled from her years spent with so-called “princes,” and starting something with Jake would break all of them.

Charming, fun, and unwilling to give up on her, Jake doesn’t fit any of the profiles Darby has created from her case studies of ex-princes-gone-bad. Finally presented with her own Prince Charming, can Darby take a chance on a happily-ever-after?

Full of wit and sarcastic humor, Cinderella Screwed Me Over proves that sometimes the perfect love, like a perfect pair of shoes, is just within your grasp.

My Thoughts

This book was awesome!! I loved how the main character kept case studies on her ex boyfriends based on fairy tales. It was a great way to get to know about her past failed relationships and get to know why she is so hesitant to take the leap of love again. Cindi Madsen is one of my favorite authors because even if I don't necessarily love the characters, I get them. She has a way of sucking you right into their story and making you need to keep going. I didn't quite love Darby at first, but I grew to love her and I really enjoyed getting to know her.

Darby is a very independent woman. She throws herself into her work, and has a condo in a nice building. She is happy with her life the way it is. Or so she tells herself. Darby is so anti-love that at times I got annoyed with her. Everyone but her could see how awesome Jake was, and how crazy about her he was. She was so stubborn, but something about him made her want to break the relationship rules she had made for herself. She slowly starts to let her walls down, and let him in the way she hasn't let anyone in a long time. She's been hurt so many times that instead of giving him a fair shot, she goes out of her way to find things that are wrong with him, or ways to push him away to make what is growing between them fail. As frustrating as it was to read at times, I really enjoyed it though. She wasn't going to change her mind that easy and I really liked that she was true to what she believed and didn't give in that easy.

Jake is pretty much Prince Charming come to life. He is sexy, sweet and will stop at nothing to make Darby believe in love again. What I loved the most about him was that he was persistent, but never pushy. He wanted her to realize it on her own time. That's not to say things were easy. Just when he thinks things might be starting to go okay with her, she pushes him back away again. Oh, and did I mention that he can cook? I love a man who knows his way around the kitchen.

The chemistry between Darby and Jake was sizzling. There was no denying that. He's got a few strikes against him right off the bat though. He is co-owner of her favorite restaurant and he lives in her building. She is willing to break some rules for him, but when it becomes harder for her to find the negative things about him, she tries too hard to push him away. Even as she is helping her best friend plan for her dream wedding to the love of her life, Darby continues to be a skeptic. Jake is just what she needs to show her that all of her case studies, and take on love, are all wrong. She just hadn't found the right guy to sweep her off of her feet yet.

I loved how fairy tales were incorporated into the story, and how we see Darby's rules and ideas on love go out the window. It was great how Jake made her think of things in ways she hadn't before. Besides that, I loved the family aspect of it. Her family was great!! I loved the relationship she had with her brothers, and how she was with her friends. This was much more than your typical romance. It was amazing. Fairy tales may give girls an unrealistic look at romance, but there are real Prince Charming's out there. They will just come into your life when the time is right. Once again, Cindi Madsen has made me adore her writing and her books!! She is an author that I will read anything that she writes!!

  6. I read Andrea's review a few weeks ago and I'm so glad that you guys both loved it. I can't wait to meet Jake. I guess Darby's stubborness could be a bit of a turn off for a reader, but I'm glad it didn't bother you too much what with the push and pull. Lovely review, cupcake!

  8. I can definitely see how Darby's attitude and stubbornness could irritate you, but I'm really glad that you loved the rest of the book overall. Jake sounds like the perfect love interest and a believable, explosive chemistry between the two main characters is always a fantastic thing.

Fantastic review, Amy! I'm going to need to check this one out now. I love the title and then everything else behind it.
