Despite what her name might suggest, Heart has zero interest in complicated romance. So when her brilliant plan to go to prom with a group of friends is disrupted by two surprise invites, Heart knows there's only one drama-free solution: flip a coin.
Heads: The jock. He might spend all night staring at his ex or throw up in the limo, but how bad can her brother's best friend really be?
Tails: The theater geek...with a secret. What could be better than a guy who shares all Heart's interests--even if he wants to share all his feelings?
Heart's simple coin flip has somehow given her the chance to live out both dates. But where her prom night ends up might be the most surprising thing of all...
This book was so fun and cute!! I couldn't help but fall in love with it. If you are not into fluffy and cutesey books, then this probably isn't for you, but I adored it. We get to see what happens at Heart's prom with each of the dates she has to choose from. It's great because it's not like it's two totally different nights. The same things happen, just a bit differently depending on which date she is with. Each chapter alternates between "heads" and "tails" with each being one of the guys she went on the date with. Crappy things still happen, she also still has fun, but also, she finds herself and I loved it!! Each of the prom nights still has the same result and it made it really fun to see how they both kind of merge together. It's a bit alternate reality, but it isn't confusing since we are getting to live out each scenario in alternating chapters.
Heart is a really fun character to read. She is awkward, fun, and pretty carefree for the most part. She has a great heart (no pun intended) and really just wants to do what is best for people and not hurt anyone's feelings. She has a reason to feel bad for turning down either of the dates, but she also doesn't want to let her friends down either. Seeing her go through the night in two totally different situations was hilarious, entertaining, and a bit sad at times. For a no drama prom, she gets more than she has bargained for. I think she is a bit on the dramatic side about her rules for herself, but it's who she is and it makes the story.
The romance was super sweet. And even though she has two different prom dates, there is no love triangle involved. She is really against relationships because of her past and what she thinks will happen if she gets into one, but sometimes you just can't fight it. A special someone is the one who makes her see it. The romance is a bit touch and go, but it totally works. I can see where the guy is coming from and why he tends to act a bit jerky once in a while. I can't quite understand how at her age, Heart is as set about her reasons for not having a relationship, but it really does fit with her personality. As the romance starts to come forth, it's so fun. They are both a bit awkward about it, but it's sweet at the same time.
I really need to stop using the words sweet, awkward, and cute in this review. I just can't help it though because they are perfect ways to describe this book. I haven't had this much fun reading a book in a while and this was just the right book to perk up my spirits. I was a grinning fool for probably half of it. Heart and her friends are a great group and had me laughing and smiling throughout the book. It reminded me of my group of friends in school. We could always have fun, no matter what things might go wrong. We were always there for each other, and we would even do something horrible if we knew that something awesome would come out of it. I could go on and on about this book, but it would just be annoying babble about how cute it was, so I will finish by saying that you need this book in your life. It was fabulous!!
