*This is the third book in the series. My review may contain spoilers from the previous two, but will be spoiler free for this book.
War between heaven and hell is coming, but Dante Walker makes it look damn good.
Dante’s girlfriend, Charlie, is fated to save the world. And Aspen, the girl who feels like a sister, is an ordained soldier. In order to help both fulfill their destiny and win the war, Dante must complete liberator training at the Hive, rescue Aspen from hell, and uncover a message hidden on an ancient scroll.
Dante is built for battle, but even he can’t handle the nightmares where spiders crawl from Aspen’s eyes, or the look on Charlie’s face that foretells of devastation. To make matters worse, the enemy seizes every opportunity to break inside the Hive and cripple the liberators. But the day of reckoning is fast approaching, and to stand victorious, Dante will have to embrace something inside himself he never has before—faith.
What a fantastic conclusion to an awesome series. I have loved getting to know these characters, and have become very fond of Dante's cocky attitude. I am not typically one who likes the bad boy if he really is a jerk, but in this case, I loved Dante. And he really is a total jerk most of the time. That is unless it has something to do with Charlie. I really enjoyed how he became a bit softer towards the other characters in this one too. He really became a great person... well, dead person Liberator or whatever. Things got pretty intense in this, but I thought how it all turned out was great!
Dante still has his good humor, cockiness, attitude, and his demons eating at him. He also has started to be better towards other people, but still doubts himself. He really is good at heart, but he is the only one who doesn't see it. He slowly starts to find the real him, and realize that he can be forgiven, but it takes him a while. I love his absolute devotion towards Charlie, and how much he really cares about his close friends. I really enjoyed him making new friends too. Don't worry though, he still is the same Dante, just with a soft spot.
Charlie was fabulous as always. She is what helps Dante let the good he has come out. She becomes more brave than she already was, and I loved it. She has always been a very strong character, who only wants to do what is good and right. Yes, she is scared, but she is accepting of what things need to be done. She will go above and beyond to do what she has to to help everyone.
The rest of the characters were just as awesome! I really liked Oswald. He's a cooky old man, but was so fun to read. He is a key part in this book, and I thought he was perfect. Really, everyone was well developed and we get to know them all. Even with this being told in Dante's POV, I didn't feel disconnected from the others at all.
In this final book, there is the war against good and evil looming, and it is full of action, tension, and of course humor and moments that make you sigh. The tender moments between Charlie and Dante, as well as the sweet uncharacteristic moments Dante has with others were full of emotion. I felt that the story was solid, and the characters felt real. I could imagine what I was reading. Victoria Scott is a true talent and this series is one of my favorites. She grasped me from the first book, and held me tight all the way through the last words of this one.
*An advanced copy of this book was provided by the tour host in exchange for an honest review. I did not receive any compensation.
