Upcoming Blog Name Change

Hi everyone!!! So, today I was randomly googling my blog name. (Silly, I know, but I do it every once in a while) As I scrolled down the page through many of links to my blog posts, I saw a Book Loving Mom that wasn't me. *Gasp* Of course I had to click on it. The shock that someone stole my blog name made me mad, sad, and frustrated. That blog is just over a month old! I've been using this blog name for almost 3 YEARS!! They have no contact button, so I couldn't nicely email them about it. (I'm not rude enough to actually post on their blog that they are a name stealer) But really, a quick google search would have shown them that someone already was using that blog name.

I went through hours of anger and sadness. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to think. How can people really not google something before setting up something like a blog? I mean, if you are setting up a blog, you should probably know how to use google!! I took to twitter and talked to a few fellow bloggers. They helped me to not feel so frustrated, and helped me to come to a decision about my blog.

First, I will go into some of the little things about it. My URL is not matching my blog name and instead it's booklovingme.com, (when I purchased my URL the one matching my name wasn't available, but I came across no other blogs with the name) so this person easily scooped up the mom.com URL. So what can I do? I know I shouldn't have to be the one to change my blog name that I have had for years, but I though about it, and is it worth the headache to deal with this blog name stealing person. (I know I sound mean, but it's upsetting even though I don't think the person did it on purpose.)

So, after thinking about it, and ranting quite a bit, I have decided I will be changing my blog name to Book Loving Me. It will match my URL, and I think that my followers will still know it's me. It's going to be the same website you have been using, just a different blog name. I hope that if anyone goes to the other Book Loving Mom blog, they won't be confused since that is totally not me. After almost 3 years, my name is changing. It's sad, but I'm okay with it and even really like the name. The change will not be official until after I get a new banner, and grab button. I suppose I will probably need a new meme banner for StS too, but that isn't super important right at the moment. Once it is official. I will have a post about it with my new banner and button to grab with the new name. I just wanted to let everyone know in advance the name is changing and that the other Book Loving Mom is not me. I will be Book Loving Me soon!!

Love you all!!!

  1. YAH! I think that is an awesome idea! Are you keeping the purple theme? I do love it.

    1. I am hoping that Giselle, my awesome blog designer, still has the files for this and can keep the same exact design, just change the name. If I have to change design, I will still keep purple theme.

  2. Very frustrating, I can imagine. I don't understand why people don't Google before starting a new feature or blog title. I think some people just don't care.

    1. Very true. I don't think she did it on purpose, but it's still frustrating. I figured since my URL is booklovingme, I might as well change my name to that. I am hoping I am established enough it won't matter since it will be the same website, just different name.

  3. When I picked my blog name I googled it and did find another with the same name but it was a foreign blog that hadn't posted in years so I decided to go ahead and take the name. But then I had to add an extra l to my name since it was taken. At least the blogspot name the .com name was available but I didn't feel like paying at the time. The blog is down now so I was thinking of taking the proper spelling name but I'm not sure how all that works and if it will mess up all my links and what not! LOL

    1. I don't think it will mess up the links since it automatically redirects when you purchase a URL. I did the search before starting mine, and also again before deciding on the name change. It's annoying that other people don't care enough to even search it. If she had, she would have seen a bunch of my posts with the blog name.

  4. When I set up a book blog for the first time, I didn't do a google search and ended up accidentally taking someone's name. So I immediately deleted it and started something new. (It wasn't a big deal, just like, two days worth of not knowing what the hell I was doing lol!) And you would think that, even if she didn't want to be respectful of you, she would change her name for selfish reasons - she wants to be found right? So she should probably have a creative name that no one else has so people will know it's HER. I'll never understand people.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you, but I love how strong and positive you've been throughout it all. I'm crossing my fingers that Giselle will be able to help you keep your old design since it's so gorgeous, but if that's not possible I know you'll find something just as "Amy" and hopefully just as purple!

  5. I'm sorry to hear about this, Amy. I can imagine how upsetting it is to realize someone has the same blog title has you. As long as you feel like it's the right decision (and the happiest solution) to change your blog name then everyone will support you. Also, in my head I call your blog Book Loving Me because of your url and I'm sure a lot of people do!
Good luck with the change, Amy!

  7. Sucks. I've had my blog name for 3 1/2 years and there have been a lot turn up with variations of mine. Not really happy about that but I'm not giving up my name. I do like that your name will match your URL though. Good luck.

My blog is now an award free zone. I really appreciate the thought, but stopping by is reward enough for me. Thank you so much!!

I have been getting a ridiculous amount of spam comments so I have disabled anonymous comments. If you are an anonymous user and a real person, I apologize.

I love comments! I will try to respond to as many as I can. I read every one of them, even if I do not respond to them all.
