There is a right way and a wrong way to summon her.
Jess had done the research. Success requires precision: a dark room, a mirror, a candle, salt, and four teenage girls. Each of them--Jess, Shauna, Kitty, and Anna--must link hands, follow the rules . . . and never let go.
A thrilling fear spins around the room the first time Jess calls her name: "Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary. BLOODY MARY." A ripple of terror follows when a shadowy silhouette emerges through the fog, a specter trapped behind the mirror.
Once is not enough, though--at least not for Jess. Mary is called again. And again. But when their summoning circle is broken, Bloody Mary slips through the glass with a taste for revenge on her lips. As the girls struggle to escape Mary's wrath, loyalties are questioned, friendships are torn apart, and lives are forever altered.
A haunting trail of clues leads Shauna on a desperate search to uncover the legacy of Mary Worth. What she finds will change everything, but will it be enough to stop Mary--and Jess--before it's too late?
You've all heard of Bloody Mary, probably even played it yourself as a kid right? I was always super creeped out by it, and still don't like to look into mirrors in the dark out of that stupid irrational fear that something might be there. This book was very creepy. I could imagine this creepy being in the mirror, I could feel the characters fear. I was totally drawn into the story and it gave me goosebumps.Though Jess is the one who has the obsession with Bloody Mary, Shauna is really the main character in this and I loved (and hated) going through this scary adventure with her.
This story is told by Shauna. Her and her friends go along with Jess to call Bloody Mary. It terrifies them all, but with Jess wanting to try it again, they go along with it. Mary gets out and latches onto Shauna and haunts her in any reflective surface she comes across. Shauna seeks help from someone who has been haunted herself by this evil spirit, but it seems the only way to get rid of Mary is to get her to haunt someone else. It's more than haunting though, she wants the person who's blood she has tasted. She will stop at nothing and is relentless. Shauna wouldn't wish that upon anyone else, but Jess is determined to ensure the safety of Shauna and will pawn Mary off on unsuspecting people if she can.
This was a very visual book for me. The description were perfect and I could imagine all the creepy, scary scenes unfolding. I hated Jess, and felt bad for all the other characters. Including Mary. She may be evil, but the the things that led her to be an evil spirit made me want to feel bad for her. I would have if she wasn't so freaking scary! I really enjoyed how well rounded the characters were. Their personalities were so different and it was so easy to fall into the story and care what happened to everyone. I love a good horror story, and this one was done really well. I can't wait to read more from this author!!
